My mantra, a wise choice, and filling a void.

Since I started training, last Saturday, I have not really felt much like running. 🙂 This is gonna be a GREAT 16 weeks folks! haha So. Ever since my Saturday and Sunday, where I failed to get in my long run, and then I did do my long run (8 miles) on Monday, in the 90 degree HEAT with like, 200% humidity, this has become my new mantra:

“Get comfortable being UNcomfortable.” ~Jillian Michaels

Long runs are GOING to get uncomfortable. Running in humidity is UNCOMFORTABLE. Attempting to get up at the crack of dawn on a Saturday morning to get 15+ miles in, is going to get UNcomfortable! So that’s my training mantra. And I’m stickin’ to it.

I decided that maybe it’s a good idea to warm up for 1/2 a mile or so before doing a speed workout. I dunno what made me think of that wise decision…maybe the fact that I didn’t really do an “warming up” last week for my speed run and it was like, 500% humidity and I thought my legs fell off at one point…?! Anyway, I decided I was going to just warm up at a sloooow pace for at least half a mile first. It helped tonight. Plus the fact that I waited to go running until about 6:45 when it cooled down a little. I mean, it was still 85 degrees, but the humidity wasn’t as bad. Good choice, Nik. Anyway, I did 11 – 400 meters. Yes. 11. I had 6 miles on the schedule and needed to get in a speed workout today, so that was that. But you know what? I felt GREAT! And I did do some walking in between the intervals, but not as much as I thought I would have to do!

As usual, I did a “speedy” 400 meters, then recovered for 400 meters. And back and forth for 6 miles. I didn’t think I was moving that fast until I passed my mom on the home stretch back. Usually she has been waiting for me a little while, but not tonight!

And, as usual, I got to be one with nature…

Typically, it’s just me, nature, my thoughts, prayer ramblings, etc…out running, but tonight, it was me and Pink. And Jason Derulo. And Paramore. Ya know, the whole gang. They kept me moving. So all in all, I realized that it was a wise decision to wait until a little later in the evening to run so that it’s a LITTLE bit cooler. AND listen to music for the speed runs. Oh, and it’s also a wise decision to chase a run with some pizza. And chocolate. 😉 God bless moms that come over and make you chocolate because they feel bad that your hubby ate your 2 cookies last week that you had HIDDEN IN THE FREEZER AND HE DOESN’T EVEN LIKE TO EAT THOSE COOKIES!!!! 🙂 And since he’s out of town for the weekend, I’m going to Trader Joe’s tomorrow after work, buying ALL the chocolate and sweets they have, spreading them all over the kitchen counter and sending him a picture. Because I can. 🙂 No more hiding chocolate sweets this weekend boys and girls! Boo-ya!

Oh, and last night, I did get a little 4 miler in too. Go me!

I think the fact that some of the gym has been closed this week, meaning there was no Strike class Monday night, and no strength class tonight, I’m filling those voids with running…you do what you gotta do.

On that note, I leave you with what is making me laugh tonight.

P.S. I’m so thankful for sleep. Good night!

  1. The opening paragraph to this blog really made me laugh. I know what you mean about not feeling like running when you are supposed to be training for something! The humidity has been pretty rough in Dallas but it has been a little cooler than it normally is so I guess that is nice. I’m hoping it won’t be ridiculously hot and humid for my long run tomorrow. For me, a good motivator on Saturday mornings is knowing that I can take a nap later in the day if I need to — maybe that will help you too?! Good luck on your run this weekend!

  2. Great job on all of the 400’s!! I would die! I can barely make myself do a slower 3 miles after work on humid days. Get comfortable being uncomfortable is a great motto!!!
